SMMT figures released this week have shown that UK automotive manufacturing was back on track in August after summer shutdowns came to an end.

UK car manufacturing output increased 40.6% in August, according to latest figures from the SMMT. Some 99,910 cars were built in the month, taking year-to-date production volumes past one million – a gain of 1.6%. These are the highest year-to-date figures since 2008.
British CV manufacturing, meanwhile, continued its recovery, posting a seventh consecutive month of growth. Output for the month rose by 70.3% to 3,628 units, while year-to-date volumes were up 34.1% to 61,595.
UK engine output rose 15.8% last month, with 112,777 units produced. There were boosts for both the home and export markets, with demand up 15.1% and 16.3% respectively.
