When finally constructed, the plastics injection moulding operation, taking shape in the ‘Plastics Valley’ of the Lanheses industrial park, is destined by 2021 to create up to 250 jobs. Its total covered site then is expected to amount to 35,000m2.
Steep Plastique, a tier one supplier based at Saint-Maurice-de-Beynost near Lyon, France, invested around €10m to build the initial stage of the plant. The firm moved into the 7,000m2 facility some eight months ago with a start up workforce numbering around 50.
Production at the firm’s new Portugal operation will target major motor industry export business. The company is understood to be a parts supplier to more than 20 vehicle manufacturers.
Other companies which have set up production units in the ‘Plastics Valley’ industrial cluster in Lanheses industrial park include the French auto components injection moulder Eurostyle Systems. It launched an €18m processing facility.
Also serving the automotive industry from the northern Portugal base are two plants constructed by the vehicle power train supplier BorgWarner and hydraulic components manufacturer Bontaz.
