The first vehicle of the new generation of Peugeot 208 with electric propulsion rolled off the production line of the Trnava-based factory of Groupe PSA on March 27. This was the first electric vehicle ever manufactured in Trnava and this model will only be produced here. The carmaker introduced the electric car to journalists on April 4.
“The industry is facing several challenges including Brexit and Industry 4.0 while the automotive industry also faces the need for innovations related to autonomous transport as well as the requirements for a dramatic reduction of CO2,” said ?ubomír Kollár, personal manager of the Trnava-based factory, adding that the only answer for meeting the emission quotas is a significant increase in electric cars.
roupe PSA promises to produce each of its models in an electric version by 2025. The new generation of Peugeot 208 will be available in electric, petrol, and diesel versions. The range of the electric Peugeot 208 is 340 km.
Customers should be able to buy the electric version of the Peugeot 208 in late 2019 or at the beginning of 2020. Its price has not been set yet and the carmaker is speaking cautiously about its plans for this model.
“Everything depends on how the market reacts,” said the Peter Švec, spokesperson for the Trnava plant. “Only after the price is made public and following the launch of the marketing campaign, will we know the extent of customer interest.”
