The governor, who met with the president of the Caoa Group, Carlos Alberto de Oliveira Andrade, said that following confirmation of the assembly of Chery cars in Anapolis, the State of Goias takes third place in the automotive industry in the country, alongside Rio Grande do Sul and behind Paraná and São Paulo.

With Chery, Goiás, in addition to Hyundai, now has assembly lines for John Deere, Mitsubishi and Suzuki, all three in Catalão, said the maisgoiás website.

Oliveira Andrade said his group intends to invest approximately US$2 billion on a new assembly line in the factory at Anápolis and to increase in production at Jacareí. The Anápolis plant is around three times bigger than the one in São Paulo.

The road and logistics infrastructure and the business climate provided by the State government were decisive for the choice of Goiás to host the second Chery factory in the country, said the president of the Brazilian group.

Chery started operating 17 years ago, and arrivedin Brazil in 2014 and built its factory in Jacareí, in the interior of São Paulo State.

The plant received an investment of over US$400 million and has a production capacity of 150,000 vehicles per year.

This month Brazilian group Caoa announced it had paid US$60 million for 50% of Chinese group Chery’s business in Brazil, that includes the factory in the city of Jacareí and the resale network.
